"Learning to sleep like learning to walk" in toddlers aged 0 to 5 years

This conference aims to present content and possible courses of action on sleep in children aged 0 to 5 years in appropriate and scientifically validated formats to parents and early childhood specialists. Since sleep deprived parents find themselves lost in a whirlwind of information which is highly variable in scientific quality. As part of a DIALOGUE grant from the Fonds de recherche du Québec (2021-2022), a bilingual web platform was co-constructed to target the needs of parents and early childhood specialists. Additional content development will continue in 2022-2023 with support from the CQJDC. The objective of this free conference is to present the origin of the project as well as the methodology related to the knowledge transfer strategy of the web project developed by Immerscience’s knowledge brokers. This platform was also created in order to create a dialogue between the science of child sleep and parents and early childhood specialists from the Fédération québécoise des organismes communautaires famille. At the end of this conference, the concerned actors will be able to navigate the web platform and find their way easily.

Thank you to GRISE – Groupe de recherche et d’intervention sur les adaptations sociales de l’enfance – for their invitation to their lunchtime conference on October 18, 2022. (Duration: 42 minutes – Language: French).

Summary: Approximately 25% of parents report that their children have sleep problems during childhood (Owens, 2007). Parents quickly find themselves lost in a whirlwind of information which is highly variable in scientific quality. In order to help parents navigate this mountain of information, a web platform was co-constructed in 2021-22. The objective was to present the origin of the project as well as the methodology related to the knowledge transfer (KT) strategy of the science popularization web project “Learning to sleep like learning to walk.” This platform was developed by Immerscience’s knowledge brokers and presents results of a co-construction survey. Through the KT strategy implemented, we were able to create a dialogue between the science of children’s sleep and the “village” surrounding children such as parents and practitioners. This allowed us to develop targeted content in validated formats to create a sustainable dialogue with a strong outreach.
